The Techichi, a breed of dog indigenous to Central America, is ancestor to the chihuahua which enjoys great popularity in the United States today. A favored pet, this dog was considered to be a religious necessity among ancient Toltec tribes and was credited with fighting off evil spirits. The chihuahua is characterized as a graceful, alert and swift moving dog, well-known for it's saucy expression.
