About Me
In a galaxy far far away, Glamour kills is an excellent example of the dream that every kid has growing up. Whether you were playing air guitar, drums or just singing in the shower at some point every kid has the dream, everyone wants to be a rock star and be famous. Not everyone realizes what its like to get to that point. Mark Capicotto was just like every other college kid in New York, he knew what he loved to do but was unsure of how to make a living with it. He always had a talent for drawing and graphic design, and did a bunch of freelance work for bands and was stoked to be able to do artwork for the people he had admired growing up. His designs had a fresh style that was unlike anything else, it just seemed like it was meant to go together, like chocolate and peanut butter, and when people saw the designs they loved them. As more and more people started to recognize his designs and style, Mark had an inspiration…why not design for himself? He talked the idea over with his Mom, who really loved it. She helped Mark find a loan to start up his business, and on a stormy night in 2005, Glamour Kills was born. At first he started off slowly, attending local shows and other events in the Hudson Valley area where he grew up. Mark knew he had a good ear for music, so he used that talent to seek out the bands he loved listening to as a kid. Those bands loved his designs, which led to what has now grown into a huge family of bands that love and support Glamour Kills. Mark soon found that working for himself was everything he could have ever wanted. As he gained more and more support from people all over he began to push the envelope with his designs. As the bands grew so did GK. Mark had been thinking about touring to get GK all over the USA and the time was finally here. He put together a touring team and sent them across the nation to spread the word. The response at the “Taste of Chaos” tour was better than he expected, but he had no idea where he was about to go next. A few weeks later at the Bamboozle Festival in New Jersey, Mark saw for himself just what kids thought about Glamour Kills. At Bamboozle, Glamour Kills sold every shirt they had (including the ones off their backs). Mark wasn't the only one who saw success in store for Glamour Kills, soon after that Bamboozle festival, he began to hear from many people who wanted to sell his clothing in their stores. After working with a few big name retailers, Mark realized that GK had the potential to be more than just a web-store. After seeing what his company was capable of Mark was ready to take it to the next level. He hired a team of people to help him with the work and the founding fathers of Glamour Kills were assembled. Every member brings in their special strengths and weakness (like Power Rangers) to the team. With his team of excellence assembled and his plans of world domination complete, there was only one thing left for Mark to find…”a headquarters.” After shopping around for a while Mark found the perfect stomping grounds for Glamour Kills, it was in Beacon, New York. He quickly established a presence there with the first ever Glamour Kills store located at 544 Main Street, soon to follow was the GK warehouse, where GK currently operates. Since Glamour Kills is unlike any other company Mark felt it was natural that it should not be like any job. The GK warehouse is a relaxed environment; no one wears suits or ties. All of the employees have a camaraderie so its not so much work as it is hanging out with friends. It’s kind of like the lost boys from Peter Pan, everyone is just trying to have fun and not grow up (except they are at work). Since the beginning Glamour Kills has been able to grow without losing track of what is important. Attention to the fans, originality, and the belief that you should never be afraid to be you. Glamour Kills proudly endorses over 40 musical groups from all over the world.
